About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

WOW!!  We had a lot of good guesses on what that ugly bug is (both here and on FB) but here is the answer and the rest of the story (which you might find interesting!!)

Just so ya know, we DO have an ample supply of earwigs this year!  THEY ARE TERRIBLE!  I have to take a flash light and look inside the coffee maker before making coffee (it is black inside of it) and check my bath towel in the morning.  I wouldn't be surprised if I squeezed one out of my Crest toothpaste!

There are some smart people out there! Even our niece Stephanie, knew what that ugly bug was...and she lives in LOWER Michigan. I had no idea these bugs are "all over" the U.S. and other countries. Here is a link if you want to read up on the ANT LION!!!

I am reading a book called the Poisonwood Bible (not sure why it is called that), but even in this book, which takes place starting in Georgia and then to the Congo, THE WRITER WRITES ABOUT THESE BUGS!!!  So they ARE all over!

  1. Hi Cathy- The poisonwood bible is a good book. I read it a few years back. Earwigs are bad bugs and really hard to get rid of. We had an invasion at the radio station years ago. They were dropping off the ceiling on us. I was told that was very distracting when you are on the air. It seems we had an exterminater and had to clear all brush around the station. Good luck! Sandy
