Rumors run rampant, but it truly does seem that Rainbow Lodge no longer exists. I have other people who have a resort up that way that left in the middle of the night with just the clothing on their backs. They were NOT evacuated but by 2:00 a.m. the smoke was so bad they left on their own.
Now, they have no idea if their home/resort is still standing or not.
As you can imagine the DNR is flooded with phone calls (mine included). Getting truthful information can take some time.
So, please don't listen to the speculators and the ones who start rumors. You may hear something from someone else and wonder why I hadn't posted it yet...it's because I hadn't heard it directly from any DNR source or it is night time and I'm in bed. I'm not saying I'm THE source, but what I give you will be the best info I can get for you.
If any of you post comments and I don't respond, please understand that I'm very busy and it will be hard to keep up with all the comments and emails. I will do the best I can to acknowledge them and I AM reading them.
SO, with all of that said, we need to think about the firefighters that are doing their best to contain this fire. This is not an easy, fun job. It is a dirty and hot job and with the 30+ mph winds, it isn't going to make their job any easier.
Just keep checking and praying for everyone. It appears this fire COULD consume more acreage than the Sleeper Lake Fire of 2007.
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
