About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

A LOOK AT OUR DRIVEWAY

We made it home Saturday afternoon and finally have water today.

As much as we tried to mouse/shrew proof everything before we left, we still had "calling cards" awaiting us when we came home.  Yesterday I spent a lot of time going over every surface with those Clorox sanitizer cleaner things.  I finally have hot water so I've cleaned everything again, managed to get one load of laundry in the dryer and another in the washer.  Maybe we can take a shower yet today!!

I'm pretty sure we're going to have to winterize Gracie (the 5th wheel) yet today; supposed to be around 25 tonight.  No need to take any chances on anything freezing and breaking.

Any-hoo, we're both pretty exhausted and it has been strange being  home and in our own bed.  We've both had the "wake up and wonder where you are" moments since coming home.

But we're thankful to God for once again watching out for us in our travels.  I just hope God is around this summer when people start complaining about bugs, or coyotes that howl in the night, or their lack of cell phone signal or worse...little or no internet access.

Anyway, I digress....Here is a few shots of our journey to "our drive way" (AKA the Mighty Mac)

I'm pretty much publishing this post for people and friends who haven't seen our neck of da world yet.

How many highways have you been on that the road service announces how far you are from a bridge?  This should show ya how important "our driveway" is!!

Do you see the towers yet?  Neither did we!  This was taken around Vanderbilt where we spent more time keeping our eyes open for elk crossing instead of bridge towers!

HEY!!!  THIS looks familiar!!!!  There's da bridge!!!

Only one more mile to da bridge then 5 miles across the Straits!!

High wind warnings on da bridge aren't unusual.  If it gets really bad, you have to be escorted across, which I never understood because if you blew off "da bridge" what good is that escort gonna do ya??  Yell, "camper overboard!!"  "Trucker overboard!""

NUFF SAID ABOUT THAT PHOTO!!

DARS DO YOOP ON DA UDDER SIDE!!!!

  2. I have an almost identical picture of the one where you first see the bridge! I was told that you can see it from the expressway by Sea Shell City, too! Can't wait for the next time we drive up there to see that! We try to get to the UP at least every couple years. The bridge is my very favorite place in Michigan!

    Cathy,

Welcome home.....and only Michigan people can express the feeling of seeing da bridge....such a welcome site for me. Leaving the crazy world behind me.

Only a couple of more weeks till I cross my old friend.
