About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

WHERE THE KEEBLER ELVES USE TO LIVE

There were several prescribed burns on the refuge last week (not all at the same time).

Toby, one of the fire techs, noticed that there was smoke coming out of the top of this oak tree.  Later they realized the tree was on fire on the inside.  The fire got so intense that it split the oak open.  Until then they didn't realize the tree was almost rotted.  The fire burned into the night in this tree despite efforts to extinguish it.

I didn't get to see the actual tree burning but Toby took my back to see what it looks like now.  I asked him where the elves ended up moving to...

So the following picture is MY rendition of what it must have looked like

  1. Thanks! This kind of painting is a lot more forgiving than using real oils and brushes!! And it doesn't take but an instant to dry!

    1. Joanna, thanks! I think you are my biggest "fan"!! I am so happy to be able to express myself with "painting" again. I use to paint on canvas, cross cut saws, cupboard doors...pretty much anything that didn't move. But I don't have the space to do that anymore, so this helps me soothe that "creative" side of me.
