About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

NUTTIN' MUCH

Here is another "THING" that a camper recently said....

I have a hummingbird feeder right by my office window and there are usually at least a couple of hummers fighting over their rightful place.

So, as I was checking in this gal, she said "OH!!!  Look at the beautiful hummingbirds at that feeder!  Do you have hummingbirds here?"  Hmmmmm...yep I think we do if you see them at the feeder.

Boy, where have all the tourists gone???  Has everyone left da U.P??  There is hardly any traffic on the road and we've only been 46% occupied the past couple of nights!!  At least it IS better than last year at this time; last year we were only 16% occupied for this same weekend!  This summer HAS been better than last year for camping AND lodging.  Motels in town seem to be doing pretty well, it sounds like restaurants are crowded, the owner of the Pizza Place said this has been on of his busiest seasons.  Hopefully, when fall colors come on there will be MORE people coming up.  AND WITH THAT GROUP CANCELLING, WE STILL HAVE WATER AND ELECTRIC SITES LEFT FOR LABOR DAY!  OH, AND ABOUT 5 RUSTIC SITES.

We have quite a few reservations for September and a handful into the first part of October.  Bear hunters are making reservations, guys are inquiring about bow hunting season for deer....all of that is right around the corner!

Well, Dan has cabin cleaning duty today so that means I better get busy with the cabin laundry so we're ready for the next batch of guests!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

  1. I swear that one of these days I'm going to talk my hubby into taking a little ride and ending up at your place to check it out. I love the pics of your campground.

  3. Cher, that would be GREAT!!! We'll be here for another 40+ days!

Mono miao, I wondered if you were still around! I had sent you an email via the Google friend thing but hadn't heard back from you. If you get a chance email me at northcountrycampground@gmail.com and let me know what you've been up to and if you are still at Alligator River NWR.
