About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

BURNED INTO MY MIND

How does one "unsee" something?  How do you get an image out of your mind?  I can hardly type this without crying.

The oil is taking it's toll on the brown pelicans (the State bird of Louisiana).  There are dead ones "floating" in a sea of oil.  There was a clip of one barely alive, COVERED IN OIL SLUDGE, slowly blinking it's eyes and not being able to so much as move a feather.  I hope that when they were done filming they put him out of his misery.  These pelicans just came off the endangered list not too long ago.

These images are BURNED into my mind.  I will see it the rest of the day and through the night, and for days to come.  While I have known this is the reality of what is going on with this oil well, I have managed not to see these scenes.

Now, it is all I see even with my eyes closed.

  1. Cathy - it makes me cry too! My husband and I have been looking into going down south to help them clean the birds. Here's the link: http://www.nature.org/multimedia/features/art31637.html
