This really IS early! Hummingbirds have been spotted south of Mighty Mac (the bridge across the Straits)! With all the wind we've had the past couple of days, they may need an escort to make it across! (Yoopers, you know what I'm referring to, right??)
When I checked the migration map and saw there had been sightings just below "da Bridge", I immediately fixed up some hummer juice and put two feeders out...and last night it got down to 26 degrees. This morning, our other birds were ice skating on their bird bath. I haven't ventured out to look at the lilacs. Anyway, back to the hummers; I only make up a cup of hummer juice and divide it between two feeders so I'm not wasting TOO much sugar. (The price of a 10 pound bag of sugar has sure come up since last summer! But then, what hasn't??)
So, keep your eyes open for those ruby throated hummers and let us know if you see any and where you are!

- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
