About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

THE RUBBLE LEFT BEHIND

This is a photo of the Pea Island Refuge headquarters after the storm that went through last week. Cindy emailed this photo to me. I hope to be able to get some shots tomorrow when Dan and I (and many others) go out there to work. The goal tomorrow is to move all of the office things into another building that is a bit higher and dryer.

I believe that yesterday afternoon was the first that the law was allowing anyone back beyond the Oregon Inlet bridge..and you had to have 4 wheel drive and promise not to go any further THAN this area...don't think I'd have a hard time with that promise at all.

The damage to the dunes has been remarkable. Where there had been HUGE dunes, there is nothing. I was told I could bring my camera tomorrow so I hope to have photos to share with you. I wished I had photos of BEFORE the nor'easter hit so you would have something to compare it to.

  1. That is incredible, Cathy!
Be careful out there in the water areas, too..that is exactly where the snakes hang out too.

At least up here, our blizzards don't usually cause damage...living there would be so disheartening to have everything you worked for disappear in a flood or hurricane!

  4. TO YOU THREE THAT POSTED FIRST; WE'RE FINE, BUT IT IS A SAD SITE. THE REST OF HWY 12 TO RODANTHE AND BEYOND IS STILL JUST 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND I THINK THE PERSONS OF HATTERAS AND BEYOND ARE STILL RELYING TOTALLY ON FERRY SERVICE. I HOPE TO POST MY STORY ON THE 'CLEAN UP' IN A DAY OR TWO.

    THANKS FOR CARING!!
