About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

NEWBERRY LOTTERY WINNERS HIT IT BIG!!

NEWBERRY GROUP CASHES IN ON $12.7 MILLION LOTTO TICKET It was the luck of the draw that paid out nearly $13-million to some restaurant workers in Luce County. Workers at the Island Grill in Newberry all pooled their money together to buy what ended up being a winning Classic 47 lottery ticket. 13 workers and one customer will split the jackpot, each one taking home about $400,000. As for how they plan to spend the extra cash, a new house, cars, vacations and retirement funds all seem high on the list. But even with all the extra money, the winners say they still plan to return to work.

  4. The Island Grill is right by the Holiday Gas Station...I'm trying to think what it might have been called (or if it was even open!) when you were here. Kind of across from the Evening Star. I don't know what the owners names are. They've had it maybe 2 years or a bit longer.

  5. It is pretty rare to hear on anyone in the U.P. hitting any large type of lotto...so I am VERY happy for them!
Dang tho...I bought a ticket for that one too...guess I better not bother seeing if I hit the BIG ONE. haha

    Hi Cathy,
When I heard about 'Newberry' being a winning spot for 13 mil.,
oh, how I hoped that customer was you or Dan. Honest, I figured if it couldn't be me - well, for Petes sake, let it be one of you two.
    Can't hurt to dream, huh?
Hope you and Dan are well and taking care and being good to yourselves.
Things in Gaylord are the same - breathe in and breathe out!
    Hugs, Lorraine
