NUTTIN' MUCH AND MISSED OPPORTUNITY

I'm still without my notebook computer and will be for a couple more days. There was more wrong with it than "met the eye". It is a long story, but it has to do with the hard drive and motherboard! I'm glad it was "caught" before things went terribly wrong but it means that my system has to be all reinstalled once they get the notebook back to National Office, which means that they had to try to back everything up, and I have to send all my programs, etc over to them. I HOPE they were able to back everything up (especially things that were in Outlook!).
This stuff gives me a gut ache....and again, we know where that can lead.

Which brings me to my new NB shoes that arrived two days ago. I ordered 1/2 size larger than normal (per podiatrists suggestion, well, he actually suggested a full size but I was afraid that would be TOO much). I'm going to continue to wear my old ones until my big toe DOES come through the end of it! BUT, remember that nifty paper towel trick I shared with you a couple of days ago? The one that kept my shoe from farting??? In order to try the new shoes on, I had to take the orthotics and my 'cushioned liner' out of the old shoes to put in the new shoes. The new shoes fit very nicely, but THEY BOTH FART!!! So I tried the paper towel trick; one towel folded in 3rds didn't do it, so I added another...THAT didn't help. I decided not to add anymore because it was kind of defeating the purpose of buying a 1/2 size larger...things were getting tight in this wide shoe!

So, I figured I'd mess with it later when I got serious about wearing them full time. Maybe I would try the powder in the shoe next. I took all the stuff out of the new shoes and put my stuff back in the old shoes. Now BOTH of those shoes FART!!! BOTH OF THEM!!! And I put the tri-folded paper towel back in the original noisy shoe but it didn't help this time. I haven't tried the powder yet, but I'm gonna make time to do it!

I had a photo op yesterday that made me almost cry because I didn't have my camera with me! I was coming back from getting a cabin ready for guests arriving today. In one of the young maple trees in the yard (which finally has full fledged leaves on it!!), was a female hummer sitting on the very end of a branch and a male was zooming her; back and forth, up and down. She finally flew down and landed in the grass about 6' in front of me. I stood totally still, but inwardly I was damning myself very loudly for not having my camera. And HE continued to zoom her. He finally lit on the ground not too far from her and then she took off. WHEN IN MY LIFE WILL I EVER SEE THAT AGAIN???? I just need to constantly carry that camera around my neck!

I hate not feeling comfortable using this old computer for anything other than my Access database/reservation system and occasionally checking emails. I HOPE that it lasts until we can get a new one! WISH ME LUCK!! If I lose this NOW, in the middle of camping season, I really am in deep doo-doo. I can't put Access on the laptop; not legally anyway...not without BUYING a new version and then transferring all the "innard workings" of the reservation database that I've developed over the years. And the laptop is 90% personal use and 10% businesss.

Catch up with you some other time!

Cathy, You and I just might run into each other some time in the Soo. I was at National Office Products yesterday making copies for my teaching at EUP Learning Center.

If you ever have time, come over for coffee while you are in the Soo.

Aren't computers such a pain in the butt? Can you imagine how much time we would have if we didn't have computers and how much we would get done? Makes me crazy some days.
Someone once told me they make great boat anchors. Not a bad idea!
Hope your computer woes get better soon.

Gosh I got heart palpatations TWICE when reading your post...
once, out of empathy for the loss of your computer and anxiety over that...and again about the hummers.
Gosh, that's how I felt when I saw the moose I couldn't get.
The male was mating her, I just read about their mating rituals...fascinating! You wouldv'e caught a little romance on camera!
I feel for ya'..missing that on camera..but it would have to be a video anyway to get the full effect, right?

SBW, I keep saying that all of us should get together sometime before we leave in the fall! I didn't go to the Soo; National picked up the computer and will bring it back but I have to do it on their schedule. Fortunately, they are in the area a couple times a week. I'm having serious withdrawal symptoms...

DVM's Wife; boat anchors! HA!!

It was very strange how this came about; as I said I thought it was just problem with the wireless/Ethernet workings of the notebook but it CRASHED while it was at National! Fortunately, it IS under warranty!

Retired One, even with a video camera (which my digital can be used that way), I never would have been able to keep up with the male zooming! I am surprised they are still in the courting stages (we see this all the time so are familiar with it) because I would think they'd be laying eggs pretty soon.

ES, the photographer, stopped by yesterday and I was talking with him about it. He told me that each species of hummers has it's own "ritual" of zooming; some add twirls into their ritual. Little show offs!

There is nothing worse then being without your computer. it shows you how far we've come in the pst 20 years!

We have lots of humming birds in our area. I ned to pay closer attention to them! All I've ever seen is them flying around a hundred miles and hour!

Joanna, I THINK you probably have rufus (sp??) hummers in your area. We had one at our feeder ONE TIME and I wasn't sure what it was so looked it up in our bird book. It explained that the rufus is basically found in California but sometimes gets off course!! I GUESS SO!!!

About Me

My Photo
Cathy Clementz
A long time ago, I was a child. For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We own and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). I am a determined, but diplomatic person. A diplomat is someone who can tell you to go to hell in such a way you look forward to the trip (and if you are REALLY diplomatic, that person will pick up a souvenir for you on the return trip!). I updated the Eastern U.P. Trail report from 1997 to 2009. I have served on the Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce Board and served as Secretary/membership/website maintenance and trail reporter for the Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association (TASA for short)from around 2001 to March 2009. Dan was a groomer operator from 2001 to 2009. Dan and I enjoy living in "da U.P." but are looking to other adventures as we cruise through our lives together!
