About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

Dear Mom and Dad,

I was sleeping peacefully and had a wonderful dream.

I dreamed that you sent me on vacation to Clementz’s Spa and Massage Parlor (where the motto is WE NEVER RUB YOU THE WRONG WAY). I was so much enjoying my dream; but then I woke up!!!

I realized that this was NOT a dream and there was a stranger pointing a camera at me. And I was in the buff!!!! Not being very lady-like at all!!!

But what could I do….I was self-conscious about the whole incident so I crawled to the top end of the bed near a shape that I thought MIGHT be my Dad…but it was not! It was the Mister of the Spa. This truly was NOT a dream!!! I AM ON VACATION!!!

I’ve been assisting Chef Dan in the kitchen whenever I was available. I offered suggestions as to how thin he should slice the roast he was working on. I’m not sure if he listened to me or not, but he did give me a dog treat and told me I was a good girl (like I didn’t already know that!). I would have preferred he kept the good girl commentary and gave me some roast beef in its place!

Cathy, who serves as the activities director and massage therapist, has been looking out for my well being; making sure I am relaxed, that my water dish is clean and has fresh water, feeding me at the times I am use to. Towards evening, if the bugs aren’t too bad and the wind isn’t blowing too hard, Cathy puts on my collar, fastens my leash to my collar and takes me for a stroll around the grounds. I like this part of my vacation.

To try to repay Dan and Cathy, I share my tennis balls with them. Every now and then, I will allow Cathy to think she is chasing me around the fenced in dog yard…she seems to get enjoyment out of this (although after about 5 minutes, she has to stop and catch her breath).

I also protect them from big vehicles that I see drive in ( I think I heard Dan and Cathy call them RVs). I use my big voice to let them know there is someone in the driveway. Dan and Cathy thank me by saying “Shhhhh…good girl”. I’m kind of confused by that. Occasionally, someone that doesn’t belong here comes into the lobby (must be they didn’t hear my BIG voice when they drove in) and then I use my REALLY big voice. Again with the “shusshhhing” thing followed by “good girl”. See my confusion??

While I am having a relaxing time, I do miss you, Mom and Dad. Sometimes, I set in the dog yard by the south end and stare southward…hoping to see you coming. I know you haven’t forgotten me because Cathy also serves as the secretary of this spa and told me she had a message for me. She let me know that you called yesterday to see how I was doing and to rub it in about how warm it is in N. Carolina. Neither one of us thought that weather comment was funny or even necessary.

Well, I guess that is about it for now. I’m not sure if I’ll have any more to write about my vacation or not, but I can’t wait to see you and hear all about your vacation.

Your best friend in the whole wide world

  1. You tell Maggie that her post was funny.

How could Dan not give her roast beef when she was sitting so pretty and batting her eyelashes like that????
The man has absolutely no heart.

  2. Retired One...Maggie has a subtle sense of humor and I will pass along your comment to her.

It was hard for Dan not to give in, but I reminded him the roast HAD been prepared with onions and onion soup mix...might not have agreed with her even though the roast was at the stage to be sliced for sandwiches.

  3. Looks like someone enjoyed her time! She is adorable.

  4. Ashley, we have Maggie till the
15th so hopefully things will continue to go well during the next several days!
