About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

I replaced all the missing letters on the yellow sign yesterday...the first day in SEVERAL days without wind. BUT, not to get excited! We are expecting 25 mph winds again today with gusts up to 40!!! THIS time if there are any naughty or weird messages left on that board (due to missing letters) I will take a photo of it and worry about what it says later!

We have some campers who stopped at the rest area west of St. Ignace yesterday. They said the mosquitoes there were HORRIBLE and the black flies were in swarms. The mosquito part really surprised me because, KNOCK WOOD, we haven't had that issue and I thought the St. Ignace/Straits area had been having about the same weather that we have been having.

Our daughter and her boyfriend will be arriving about 3 p.m. tomorrow so we're looking forward to that. I'm making my brownie ice cream cake with the decadent chocolate icing. She also requested macaroni salad. She and Larry are making beer butt chicken one night for supper and on Saturday morning, they plan on attending the LUMBERJACK BREAKFAST FROM 7 - NOON AT THE LOGGING MUSEUM which is south of us about 2 miles (this was a plug for the museum by the way!).

Jody and Larry had hoped to go kayaking through Seney Wildlife Refuge while they are here but with the wind we are still expecting, I can't imagine they will try it.

They normally come up for Thanksgiving so there isn't a lot they can do, other than visit, that time of year. I know how much she wanted to do this but figured her health issues would be what would keep her from it. She has a "nerve" condition that causes her immense pain pretty much 24/7 and is on the pain patch for it. Sometimes this condition is so bad she does resort to her wheel chair but tries very hard not to rely on it. And the patch causes her all kinds of OTHER problems so when she does manage to have a good day or even a few good hours, she does like to try to do something. So we were hoping this would work out for her; the stars would be in alignment, she wouldn't be in pain, the bugs wouldn't be bad and the wind would die down.

Well, the sun is coming up from behind the trees and I better get busy with other things! Already the wind is picking up....and it isn't even 7 a.m. yet.

  1. Hope you have a wonderful visit with our freak warm front coming in. It has already gone up ten degrees in one hour.
But NOW they are predicting 90's !!!
    Can you believe it? I can't, I just can't.
    We will see!!!!

  2. Retired One. right now it is 70 (at 11:30 a.m.)...and damn windy again. My hair looks like a Mohawk. Just came in to add 3 more black mushrooms to the collection.

  3. Cathy - I actually turned on my air conditioning today - I'm a wimp! Hope the wind dies down - kayaking thru Seney sounds like fun. That brownie desert you mentioned sounds good - are you going to take a picture of it for us? :0

  4. Shellmo, a before and after shot! BEFORE we eat it and AFTER it is gone! This thing is SOO rich and so easy to make!! It is the only cake my stepson wants from me but he can't be here and I'm not waiting for him to come up. It has been on my mind for a while!!
