About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

Remember, gosh, maybe a month ago when I was trying to figure out how to burn my photos to a DVD that could be played on a DVD player?? And after much research I found out I needed to either get a new program or a DVD player that played jpg files???

When Dan and I were downstate, we found a DVD/VHS player at a Meijer's store. Their return policy stopped us from making the purchase. There is a 30 day return policy...we have no Meijer's in da U.P. And I wanted this to be a Mother's Day present for Mom.

So, I wrote down the model, make etc and asked my sister (who DOES live not too far from Mom) if she wanted to try to find this, get it for Mom and we'd split the cost (it was $79.99 as I recall).

Mom called yesterday to let me know that it works, she could play the DVD that I had made and the photos were beautiful (all Mom's say things like that, right??). She said the photos were about the size of her 26" TV screen and no, being that size did not make them blurry.

She was thrilled about the VHS player too becuase she has a LOT of vacation tapes that she and Dad took over the years (Dad passed about 3 years ago) and her VHS player died. So now she can look at all those old tapes.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! So at least now you know these DO exist and the price is not all that bad.

  1. How neat! Glad it works...it might be an idea to get in the future.
I have to transfer all my pictures from my computer to a DVD though, which takes so much time. But I know if my computer crashed I would lose them all, which would break my heart!

  2. Retired One...not sure what you use for storing your photos, but with Picasa it is extremely easy and not time consuming at all to copy photos to a DVD or CD. Picasa is a free program so ya got nuttin' to lose!

  3. Cathy, That sounds like something that would work for my parents. They don't have a computer but I want them to enjoy the pictures that I take.

Also, is there anything out there that my parents could use to get email only? They had a computer and didn't do well with it.

Happy Mother's Day to you and all your readers.

  4. SBW, There IS something that is for email only but right now I cannot remember what it is. Maybe you could do a search??

My Mom wants a letter IN THEM MAIL sent by pony express so I can't convince her on email. Seems like this "item" had something to do with a keyboard and a TV but I can't remember what it is called.

  5. What a great gift for your mom! My mom would like something like this too!

  6. Shellmo, I just didn't want to have to have photos printed and send to Mom while we're gone next winter and this really solves the problem! :-)
