About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

IT WAS NOT A GOOD DAY

Yesterday, the nurse had not shown up by 8:30 a.m. to do Dan’s insurance physical. I made a phone call. Long story short, the company out of Traverse City had, and I quote, “dropped the ball”. Even though I verified last week that the appointment was still on and then we had an automated message on Saturday reminding us of the appointment, “SOMEONE dropped the ball” and no one was coming to do the physical.

The fellow in Traverse City explained that the Newberry area nurse quit about 10 days ago and they hadn’t found a replacement (how hard have they looked? Aren’t there qualified people looking for jobs??? ESPECIALLY IN OUR AREA!!). He wanted to try to reschedule this week. I explained to him that we were leaving Wednesday for a week on vacation. Well, heck! They could arrange to meet us some place while we were on vacation and do the physical then! They have offices all over the United States! WHO IN THE HECK WANTS TO SPEND TIME DOING THAT WHILE ON VACATION??? And why should WE be asked to do that???

As I’ve said, Dan has done VERY well with his 12 days of no chewing but this news really put him in the mood….and not a GOOD mood.

I called the insurance agent and told him what had happened. Boy was HE upset! Long story short, his company found another company and the nurse ( a local nurse) will be here at 8 a.m. this morning! That is about an hour and 3 minutes from now…time will tell.

So yesterday did not start out to be a good day so today has to be better for Dan.

He will be busy today, getting the truck ready and the pop up ready for our trip downstate tomorrow. There really isn’t that much to do, but he enjoys puttering around outside (WHO doesn’t when it is warm enough??!!!). So, once he has the truck washed, the pop up washed (decided to not take the 5th wheel for this little jaunt), we can start loading the camper. That won’t take long either. The biggest thing is to remember to throw our pillows in tomorrow morning before we take off!

We’ve got our schedules set with our kids as to when they will be available and when we can see them. And then there is my Mom and my sister (we’ll be “camping” in my sisters back yard…she asked us to stay in the house, but Dan and I do prefer to pretend like we are camping!), Dan’s brother and wife, my best friend Anne-Marie and her hubby (she happens to have Friday off so we have some time we can spend with them this trip), other friends that we haven’t seen in years because their schedule didn’t jibe with ours. As I said, this is more a tour of duty than a vacation.

So, with that said, even though I am taking my laptop with me, I may not be online for a week. The area we are going isn’t “up to speed” in every place and I’m not going to be searching out wifi spots. I may resort to dial up once in a while to check email and that will be about it. The main reason I’m taking my laptop is so I can show Mom my photos.

And speaking of photos, I ordered a DVD player from Amazon last week. It is supposed to be here today. We got it for my Mother; it is supposed to play ANYTHING from DVD’s of any type to CD’s and MP3s. The description states that it will play jpg files, so if it does, that solves my problem of sending photos to my Mother while we are away next fall/winter. I hope it arrives today so we can check it out and then we can take it with us to give to her.

We’ll catch up with ya when we get back!

  3. We had a bad day today too and it had to do with our accountant dropping the ball. I'll be able to do a whole blog about it if I'm not in jail for not filing taxes. But that's a story for another day.
Enjoy your vacation and family time. If you're in the Grand Rapids area, we are south of town about 10 miles-near Caledonia. Stop by. You are welcome to 'camp' here too.
