About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

DESTRUCTIVE BUT FUN TO WATCH

This flicker is causing a bunch of problems with trees in the park. Compared to the various kinds of woodpeckers, he can be just as destructive. Last summer flickers were coming to the bird bath in the yard. We're hoping since the tree swallows and blue birds have arrived that it will be a good year for our summer birds. The past 3 or 4 years we have noticed a BIG decline in the # of humming birds and hope that will change this year. AND, we rarely see killdeers anymore. They use to nest out by the cabins (which we had a hard time protecting them out there).

  1. I have yet to attract a hummingbird! :( But I hope you do!

P.S. When we go visit the U.P. this summer - I'm going to have to swing by your campground and say hello... :)

  2. Shellmo...I would LOVE it if you could stop by! And bring your camera so you can set on the deck and watch the hummers! I usually run 4 feeders...so they aren't fighting more than eating. 3 of the feeders are not within sight of each other and the other is outside my office window and IS in sight of the one on the deck.
