Some of you may have visited OSWALDS BEAR RANCH while in our area. If you haven't, then you need to!!! ( I will include a link to their website at the end of this post).
Some of their 31 bears have ventured out of hibernation. Dean is seeing foot prints in the snow so he knows they are out and about.
The good news is there are two new cubs this year!! They have been named Mary and Josie and will meet the public at the Tahquamenon Sportsmen's Club annual Tackle Party (for local kids) which is April 18th this year.
Dean and his wife Jewel got the new cubs from Kentucky (same as last year's cubs). They are about 6 weeks old and cute as a button.
The bear habitat is about 10 minutes from us (or about 15 minutes from Newberry). They have 4 natural habitats with trees, fresh running water for the bears to swim and play in and drink pools. Michigan law prohibits breeding or buying black bears so Dean and Jewel rescue bears from all over America.
Visit their website at www.oswaldsbearranch.com.
And then make sure to visit the habitat this summer!
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
