About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

SNOWMOBILE DEATH ON THE ICE

We now know the name of a man who's body was found on the ice between St. Ignace and the Mackinac Island on Saturday morning. The St. Ignace Police Department says the victim is George Wellington, Jr.A Coast Guard spokesman says the Mackinac Island man somehow got separated from his snowmobile. The body was spotted by a crewman from Coast Guard in St. Ignace.Police are treating the death as an accident.

News story reported that this man was crossing from Mac Island to St. Ignace on the ice bridge, had trouble with his sled, phoned a buddy to tell him but then phoned again to tell him he was OK...then no one heard from him again. One officer interviewed said it appears like the sled went through the ice and Mr. Wellington was able to pull himself out of Lake Huron onto the ice where they figure he froze to death.

  1. I just heard this on our local radio newscast as well. They weren't saying how he died, but mentioned no foul play was involved. How very sad! This has been too long of a winter. Now I'm hearing more snow is coming for the weekend. Ugh!
I can't believe you guys had that much snow last week!
Sounds like March will be coming in like a lion.

  2. DVM's wife, several years ago, a man on a tractor pulling a load of hay went through the ice bridge. He was trying to not mess up the snowmobile "trail" (which is normally marked out by Xmas trees stuck in the ice) and got outside of the "safety zone" and went through.

It does sound like downstate is gonna get more snow! KEEP IT!!

  3. Do you know the McNamara family? I 'met' them online and later met their daughter when she was in a crisis situation. Almost missed a ship in Vancouver a few years ago. Also, we share a 'sleeping bag' adventure!!

  4. Two of us, I know a couple of McNamara families. Two of them live a couple of doors down from us. I don't like to mention my neighbors first names here but they do have two daughters. I believe one is a teacher. Is this the same family you are thinking of?
