WOW!!! The last several days have been wonderful! The weather couldn't be any better than it is right now. And sleeping at night...well, I wish I could sleep out on the deck! There has been a pleasant breeze every night and a bit on the chilly side. We’ve been leaving one side of our curtains open just so the breeze can waft over the bed at night while we sleep.
The coyotes have been very vocal a couple of early mornings too, so you can see why it would be SO enjoyable to sleep outside under the stars. I love it this time of year or at least when the weather is like this.
It was 47° when I got up at 5:30 this morning and a bit foggy over the field across the road. It was the kind of morning you just wish you could take off on a walk across country. I could smell the pine trees on the backside of the campground before I even got half way to the bathhouse.
It is staying dark longer and getting dark earlier. I’m no longer awakened by the sounds of birds; I’ve been getting up before they do I guess! You can tell autumn is around the corner. I find it hard to believe in just a couple of days it will be August.
Dan and I have been watching a nest box with baby bluebirds. Mamma bluebird had been running herself ragged trying to keep the brood fed. You could hear them chirping up a storm. Their patience is about as long as a string waiting for her to get back and feed them.
The little birds finally got big enough and strong enough to venture out and learn to fly. We’ve been watching them fly from tree to tree in our yard. I think they are still driving mamma nuts. So far, we think there are at least 3 of them. It won’t be long and she’ll start bringing them to the birdbath/fountain that we have in the yard. It is so entertaining to watch young birds take their first “dip”. Usually they sit on the side of the bath, not even in the water yet, and start ducking their heads, as if to wash water up over their backs. Then they flutter their wings. A few minutes of this and one usually ventures in the water as if to say “Come on in! The water’s fine!”
I wish you could be here to enjoy what we’re enjoying!
