I think it was the Doors that had a song titled "Molest a Mosquito". Well, you couldn't quite call it a song; it was the same line repeated over and over for about a minute. But PLEASE, feel free to molest the mosquitoes!
THEY ARE TERRIBLE THIS YEAR!!! I was told by a reliable source that the River Mouth State Park (campground) has been having to give refunds due to the insects being so bad. I can only imagine how bad they are up there.
It is part of our cancellation policy that we do not give refunds for the discomfort(s) of nature, which includes mosquitoes and black flies. We also tell everyone to bring the Deep Woods Off. We encourage those who might be camping with LITTLE kids they might want to wait till July if they can. This year I'm encouraging people to buy a can of Yard Guard (or whatever it is called) to spray their campsite with. When there is a good breeze, the bugs aren't bad.
I managed to walk the 400' to the bathhouse this a.m. without too much swatting and cussing. There were mosquitoes but nothing to complain about...not like LAST night was. As I said, the past 4 or 5 years have really spoiled us with no bugs.
When I headed to bed last night about 10 p.m. I heard music and it sounded like it was coming from the campground. Even though we only have 4 campers here, as far as I'm concerned they deserve to have it quiet when it is quiet time at 10 p.m. One of our guests drove out so I thought possibly it had been their truck radio. But, a few minutes later the music was on again and it was getting louder. I went out to the campground to ask whom ever it was to please turn it down but it wasn't even coming from the campground. It was coming from someplace on CR 407! Not much I could do about that except pray our guests didn't get too upset about it.
By the time I got ready for bed, the music was SO much louder and it sounded like a live band in our woods! Sound travels well on fog. I finally shut the bedroom windows so I didn't have to hear it (Dan was still watching TV and had his ears off for the day so it wasn't bothering him).
We figured one of our "neighbors" on the next road must be having a belated graduation party or something and hoped it wouldn't go on all night. Must be someone who lived on CR 407 FINALLY complained because all of a sudden it was quiet. You don't know how badly I feel when it is possible that our guests can be disturbed by something like this, especially when we ask OUR guests to keep it down after 10 p.m. It would have been kind of difficult to call the police because we had NO idea just where it WAS coming from...and since it doesn't happen often, ya hate to be a "lousy neighbor"....even though it WAS the next road over!
So rest assured, if ya ever do stay with us, we DO try to keep it quiet!

- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
