I want to tell you about one of our local bear guides.
Currently, this man is undergoing treatments for two kinds of cancer. He is self employed as a guide for bear hunting....and that season is only for a few weeks out of the year!
One of our guests uses this guide for his bear hunt while he is here for the week. The guest has stayed with us before (actually it was during the week of 9/11/01). The young man is confined to a wheelchair but he drives and he hunts and he even brought his kayak along this trip. His Dad comes with him to assist him with things that he needs help with.
The bear guide built a special blind for this young man to set in while he is hunting this year. In fact, the guide and his helpers actually cleared a path through their friends woods (removing some trees and stumps) so the hunter could more easily get to the blind. I think that is going above and beyond the call of duty as a guide, especially considering how ill he is.
We have other bear hunters due to arrive next week. So far, I haven’t heard of any successful hunters yet this week, but then I don’t always hear everything that quickly!
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
