One of our readers had this suggestion and this is exactly what she did....she called the Rahilly IGA store and told them she wanted to spend X amount of dollars on her credit card for groceries for the fire fighters and volunteers.
They ARE in need of things like granola bars, sandwiches, energy drinks. If this is something you could do, here are the phone numbers to the two grocery stores in Newberry;
RAHILY IGA 906-293-5141
MAC'S MARKET 906-293-5158
WHAT A GOOD IDEA!!!
This morning you can see clouds instead of smoke. We had to shut the windows over night though due to the smell. There was a LIGHT ash in the air for a while yesterday.
Currently, if you didn't know there was a fire just north of us, you wouldn't be able to tell. Once it starts to warm up and the wind picks up, it'll be BAU. BUT it sounds like a lot of head way was made yesterday.
From what I was told the planes and heavy equipment spent most of their effort up by Chesbrough Lake (I'm gonna have to find the correct way to spell that!!). There was a lot of activity on all areas, don't get me wrong.
If I recieve an updated fire map, I will post it here. Trying to fill all the email requests was more than I could handle...sorry.
The fire has affected our business. We lost a lot of reservations yesterday and truth be known, those of us out this way were getting a bit nervous.
I will be out of the office from about 8:00 a.m. to maybe 9:30 p.m. Dan will have other things he has to tend to so if you can avoid calling during that time, it would be appreciated.
(And about the side bar, thanks for all the responses. Most of you see it where it should be but some have to scroll all the way to the bottom and one person said they didn't see it anywhere! Now I seem to be having issues with my posts showing up so if this one shows on your end twice, sorry!!)
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
