With all that has been going on the past 20+ days, I've kind of lost track of other things.
I udpate the fall color report for the Eastern U.P. I haven't even taken the time to notice what has been going on with the trees! I have noticed that my lilac bushes, which cannot be destroyed, even by an act of Congress, have looked pretty pathetic..all wilted, etc.
But the TREES ARE TURNING!!! We know that most of this is due to the stress of not having any rain. I noticed that the younger Balm O' Gileads (probably not spelling that correctly) have yellow leaves!!! Some of the choke cherries are loosing their yellow leaves! The maples are getting a pinkish tinge to parts of the leaves! Ferns are turning yellow AND brown!!!
IN years past, I have been concerned that it would be a short "color season" and we wouldn't see too many "leaf peepers". The past several years has not given us much rain either, but this year has been particularly bad (especially when the winter was so mild..not much snow). So, I can't even venture a guess as to whether we'll have spectacular colors or if they will hang on very long or not.
Just keep checking the fall color report which can be found at http://www.northcountrycampground.com/. I will start updating it probably within a week.
