About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

It hardly seems possible that a mere 72 hours ago we were running the air conditioning and thinking a dip in Lake Superior sounded like a wonderful idea.

This morning, there is frost on the cars, the roofs and Dan was out and "hosed off" the garden.

I think the cold temps have also affected some of our tent campers because I noticed most of the tents were "vibrating" this morning...they looked like shivering armadillos. This IS Michigan weather for ya! 95 degrees one day and 33 the next!

It is hard to believe that June is almost over! We are still extremely dry and the only thing really thriving is the buckhorn and tickleweed. I've been doing a lot of "pick and choose" mowing just to try to keep those two weeds under control. Everything else is brown and crunchy.

There was a CBS Evening News segment on the other night about where is Lake Superior going...meaning it is shrinking. The greatest of the Great Lakes is at an 81 year LOW. The news segment basically took place in Duluth, Mn where they say the level is over 2' lower than the norm. At our corner of the world, the experts say we are at 17" below the norm. They went on to say it would take (something around) 161 TRILLION gallons of water to bring it back up to the norm. Not only is the Michigan economy shrinking, but so are our wonderful resources!

Something new going on this weekend in Newberry! It is the first ever LUCE MOOSE FUN FEST! With the State pullling funds away from supporting the county fairs, the fair boards have to come up with fund raisers and this is what our local fair board is doing! Among some of the activities are a WILDERNESS WOMAN CONTEST (bring a change of clothing!), MUD DRAGS, SNOWMOBILE GRASS DRAG RACES, LIONS CLUB BREAKFAST, TRACTOR PULLS, THE GREAT LAKES TIMBER SHOW (including modified chainsawing, and carving, ax throwing, and log rolling) and lots of other fun things going on!

And September 15th, there will be the first ever POW WOW in Newberry! Check out the Newberry Chamber calendar of events in a couple of days! I'll have the info posted by then!

If I don't talk with you before the 4th, have a safe one!
