The last two nights have been absolutely, without a doubt, the BEST sleeping weather!! The nights are crisp, just a slight breeze and the smell of campfires wafts in through the open windows. The crickets are “cricking”, the hummingbirds are very active…it reminds you that fall is just around the corner!
We’ve finally had some good soaking rains! The grass is greener again and actually needed mowing (instead of just mowing weeds and wildflowers). Dan is still doing clean up from that storm last month. It had been so hot for so long that it really would have been dangerous for him to even try to work out in that heat, so we are behind. Now that it has cooled off to more normal temps, we’re busy trying to catch up. I know it will still be a good, long while before he can get to our nature trail to remove downed trees. Guests can still get around them.
We know the “last hoo-rah” of the summer vacation season is just about here. Labor Day is not that far away! Where DID summer go?? My Grandpa First always told me “Don’t be in such a hurry for time to pass by. When you get older it passes much too quickly.” And it does.
There are still a few more activities coming up this month; there is the Blueberry Festival in Paradise which is August 18, 19, and 20. Also, coming up August 26 & 27, is theLuce West Mackinac County Fair, Lumberjack Days at the Logging Museum Newberry and the Fly-In at the Luce Co. Airport.
Ya don’t want to forget the Mackinac Bridge walk which is held on Labor Day! This annual event is the ONLY time you have the opportunity to walk across the Mighty Mac.
To help in your plans, we, Clementz’s Northcountry Campground & Cabins, are offering Labor Day camping specials which can be found on our website at www.northcountrycampground.com
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
