SECURITY INCREASING PATROLS NEAR MACKINAC BRIDGE
The U.S. Coast Guard is increasing patrols near the Mackinac Bridge. The announcement comes after prosecutors announced that three men were targeting the 5-mile long span. The men were carrying more than 1,000 cell phones when they were arrested Friday morning in Caro in Tuscola County. State police in Gaylord say the men actually bought all the cell phones from the Walmart in Gaylord on Thursday. The store manager told police the next day, but it was too late because the men had already left town.
The Tuscola County Prosecutor says the phones were probably linked
to the men's terrorism plot. One of the targets was the Mackinac Bridge.
The news comes at a time when security is already elevated at the bridge, and has been for several months. In addition to the heightened security, there are cameras that stretch the entire length of the bridge that are constantly being monitored.
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
