Mullet Lake Trail Will Be Open to Snowmobilers Next Winter (Cheboygan County)Next winter snowmobilers will be able to ride around a once restricted area. Thursday the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board voted to remove the motorized traffic restriction from the Mullett Lake portion of the West Mullett Lake Trail. The twelve mile portion of the trail stretches from Gaylord to Cheboygan. Governor Granholm said Thursday's action could provide an economic boost to this area. The DNR expressed safety concerns about opening he entire trail to snowmobilers because it crosses within close proximity of several residences and driveways. But a tentative meeting has been set for late July to discuss the possibility of opening more of the trail for motorized traffic.

WTVG-- June 15, 2006 - An ATV collided with an SUV, killing a little girl. This happened on county road 175 at township road 195 in Sandusky County. The highway patrol says two people were on the ATV when the driver didn't stop for a stop sign and the SUV slammed into it.
Jessica Larson, 11, was pronounced dead at the scene. The ATV driver, Jessica's stepbrother Britain Morris, 20, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy medical center. Authorities say neither was wearing a helmet.
Counselors will be at Clyde high school from two until seven this afternoon for children who need someone to talk to about what happened.
And it is the season where more and more people will be out riding ATV's.
The ATV Safety Organization has some tips to keep you safe.
Always wear a helmet and other protective gear.
Don't ride on public roads - another vehicle could hit you.
Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
Don't carry a passenger on a single-rider vehicle.
And make sure you ride an a-t-v that's right for your age.
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
