About Me

My photo
A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!

I received a handful of responses as far as “what is up with Mother Nature” and the lack of certain birds. It was about half and half; West Nile virus OR the dreaded bird flu.

I know the bird flu isn’t anything to take lightly and I TRULY don’t think that is an issue (yet) with our yard birds. Have you ever thought about all the various types of flu that there is?? And the vaccines that are supposed to protect us from the flu?

But then there was the “vaccine scare”; there wasn’t a sufficient amount to go around. You had to be in a very select group in order to qualify for the shot; either a newborn or someone older than Methuselah. Then there were “stations” set up where you could get The Shot; go to your local bank, the 7-11, the drive through at McD’s…possibly even the Drs office. MAYBE a NURSE would give you a shot instead of being shot by someone who prefaces everything with “May I take your order please?” or “Do you want fries with that?”

Then there are the possible side effects that some people experience with the flu shot; side effects like getting the flu anyway. Or howling at the moon. Or yearn for chocolate (THAT is a side effect I could deal with!!) Sometimes I wonder if the vaccines are more detrimental than just getting the flu. That is one thing that I won’t have to worry about because I cannot take the flu shot and even if I COULD take it, I’m not sure I would. I have an extremely low white blood count and therefore shouldn’t take the shot. It is a Catch-22; I SHOULD have the shot and be protected because of the low WBC, BUT, it could be more harmful to me if I HAVE the shot. So far, so good. I just have to steer clear of PEOPLE!!!! AND GERMS!!!! As long as I can do that, I will be fine. I tend to panic, though, when I have to send my bubble to the cleaners.

NOW, I may have to avoid BIRDS??? And the experts have no idea of when the bird flu might hit us…just that it will. It could be between now and the end of the high price of gas. And the experts may have a vaccine for it within the next 5 years OR SO. If no vaccine can be developed in time, only the strong will survive…MEANING WOLF SPIDERS AND THINGS THAT SLITHER OR SCURRY….oh, and I Pods.
