Michigan man who fled after snowplow killed teen gets prison time
HASTINGS, Mich. A man whose snowplow struck and killed a snowmobile rider has been given a prison sentence of two to five years.
The sentencing hearing for 26-year-old Cory Schut was today in Barry County Circuit Court. He'd entered no-contest pleas to charges of negligent homicide and failing to stop at the scene of a fatal accident. Reurink was charged in the January of 2004 death of 17-year-old Jamie Reurink. The Wayland Union High School junior was hit by Schut's truck and snowplow while she was operating a snowmobile near Middleville. She ended up being dragged for a mile before Schut got out of his vehicle and ran off. His license had been revoked at the time because of alcohol-related convictions.
