Have our trail organizations tapped into this federal source of funding for our trails? If we dont apply for this money, is it lost and spent on other fed. programs? It is of the utmost importance that the dedicated funds of the snowmobile and ORV permits be protected for the users. How much funding for the 25 additional Conservation Officers will be coming out of the permit funds? Statutory protection of these funds was proposed recently, if this does not happen, the possibility of the MDNR subverting these funds is a possibility!
RTP IS THE STATE OF MI NAME FOR THE MONEY THAT COMES FROM THE FED PROGRAM (SYMMS NATIONAL TRAIL ACT). THIS MONEY IS DISTRIBUTED TO EACH STATE IN THE UNION PROVIDING THEY APPLY FOR THE MONEY. THE MONEY THAT IS APPROPRIATED COMES FROM THE GAS TAX PAID BY EVERY INDIVIDUAL WHO PURCHASES GAS FOR THEIR MOTOR VEHICLES. ( 400 TO 500 BILLION ANNUALLY?)>40 PERCENT OF THE MONEY CAN BE APPROPRIATED FOR MOTORIZED TRAIL PROGRAMS. THIS MONEY CANNOT BE USED TO PURCHASE GROOMERS.ALSO, OUR CLUB DOES NOT PURCHASE FARM IMPLEMENT TYPE GROOMERS. THE TERRAIN IS NOT NEGOTIABLE FOR THEM. MUCH OF OUR TRAIL SYSTEMS ARE IN SWAMPS AND EXTREMELY ROCKY TERRAIN. WE DO NOT LIVE IN CORN FIELDS IN UPPER MICHIGAN.MSA HAS NEGOTIATED A POOR DEAL ON BEHALF OF OUR CLUBS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON REGARDING EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT. THERE IS A MUCH MORE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO OUR CLUBS THIS COMING SEASON TO REPLACE THESE MACHINES (UPWARDS OF 25K), ANDTHE TIME FRAME OF OWNERSHIP HAS INCREASED FROM 3 TO 5 YEARS BEFOREREPLACEMENT. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, THESE TRACTORS ARE NOT PURCHASED WITH STATE MONEY. IT IS>SNOWMOBILERS MONIES IN THE PROGRAM THAT IS USED.>KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON YOUR ORV PROGRAM. IT TAKES ALOT OF DEDICATION AND TIME BUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN OUR PLEDGE FOR MOTORIZED USER GROUPS OF ALL SPORTS.>BEST REGARD, JON BESSOLO, MOOSE COUNTRY SNOWMOBILE CLUB
- Cathy Clementz
- A long time ago, I was a child. (I started out as Cathy First from Colon, Mi.) For the past several years I’ve been an adult. A lot of things went on between those two stages of life; probably no more or no less than anyone elses. My husband and I moved to “da U .P” from southern Lower Michigan several years ago (yes we were trolls at one time). We owned and operated and operate Clementz’s Northcountry Campground and Cabins just north of Newberry, Michigan until May 2015. We have grown kids and grandkids (who all live downstate). My passion is life and all that Nature has to offer us and trying to photograph it in unique ways. Our intention in life is to see all that Nature has to offer us. We hope that you will be a part of our adventures as we cruise through our lives together. Come back often!
